A Chance Connection

Dating again after loss can feel surreal and overwhelming, like stepping into a world you no longer quite recognize. I'm a recent widow and single mom. It's been almost 4 years and dating is crazy!! I've been dating this guy on and off for about 6 months. We met purely by chance. When we met, we ended up talking for like four or five hours. That one long conversation made me believe in possibilities again.

The Perfect Beginning

I am very attracted to him, and I could really see us being together, if he would get it together! We began dating and for the first two months everything was great. He was attentive, communicated very well, called constantly to see me and we ended up basically spending 4 or 5 days per week together and we were constantly going out on dates. It all felt easy and hopeful. A. Men often show a lot of interest in the beginning of a relationship and then they pull back and stop being so proactive.

Confusion and Distance

Now, he's nowhere to be found. It's hard for me to get in touch with him on most days and in the evenings it's even worse. I don't know what I did for him to pull away from me. What should I do? I miss him and want him back in my life. This is typical behavior and it doesn't necessarily mean he's no longer interested in you. Do not call him and ask him about the relationship or yell at him or anything of that nature. Go out with your friends, have fun, and relax. It left me confused and hurt.

Giving Him Space

This space gives him room to decide, and it gives you room to breathe and remember your own life. Let him figure out in his head what he wants. Eventually if he cares about you, he'll start to miss you and he'll be back. Keep in mind that he might never be as proactive as he was at first though. Men are always on their best behavior at the beginning of a relationship when they are trying to win the woman over and then they slack off once they feel like they've achieved their goal.
